How to Make Your Home Feel More Inviting for Guests

November 20, 2023

The holiday season is a time for welcoming friends and family to homes in Ridgefield WA. We want our guests to enjoy visiting our homes for parties, overnight stays or just a one-on-one chat.

Here are 5 ways to make your home guest-ready:

Tidy up. Too much clutter can make a home feel crowded and unwelcoming. Before the season starts, take time to tidy up. If guests are staying overnight, be sure to declutter their room so they have space to put their things.

Assess your furniture. If you’re having a large group of people over, will everyone have a place to sit? Does the furniture need to be cleaned? Take time to prepare enough seating for everyone.

Consider your pets. Most people love animals, but sometimes pets and people don’t mix. Make arrangements for any pets that aren’t visitor-friendly or that are very shy. Let them hide out in a bedroom or other quiet place while guests are present.

Freshen the air. Does your home have a stale odor? Use carpet freshener, mop hard floors and have upholstery cleaned. Before lighting candles or using air fresheners, check with your guests to be sure no one has allergies or sensitivities to strong scents.

Check bathrooms. Make sure there’s a fresh roll of toilet paper with a backup handy in each guest bathroom. Put out fresh soap and hand towels.
