How to Make the Most of Your Home Office

With more people working from home these days, it’s important to make an effort to create a dedicated work space in your homes in Ridgefield WA. If you’re currently in the market for a new home, we can help you find and customize a home design that will make it easier for you to have a proper work space. Regardless, here are some tips to help you have a productive space that leaves you feeling energized and ready to get some work done.

Ideally, a dedicated space, even if it’s a corner of a room, makes a difference when setting up your home office. We offer a variety of floor plans that include options for turning bedrooms into dens and home offices, not to mention loft or flex areas that can serve a variety of purposes, including a home office space. Our new home advisors can help you find just the right home design to fit your needs.

If you’re working from home permanently or more often than not, you should think carefully about the type of computer you use. For the best ergonomics, your monitor should be at eye level. That isn’t often possible with a laptop. If you don’t want to get a larger desktop computer, you may want to consider an external keyboard to use with your laptop, placing your laptop on a block that raises the screen up to eye level.

Even if you’re not working from home permanently or on a daily basis and don’t want to turn a whole room into a home office, at least create a clearly defined work space. Set up a desk in a guest room, use the covered patio if the weather is warm enough, or at least claim a corner of the dining table or kitchen island during designated work hours.

In fact, setting designated work hours is important, especially if others are home with you. During your work hours, it’s clear to all that you’re not to be interrupted and that noise near you should be kept to a minimum so that you can work more productively. It’s also good for you so that you can separate work from home. It’s easy to let boundaries blend, which isn’t good for your personal life.

You should also make sure that you keep your work area neat and organized, especially if you’re sharing the work area with another part of the home. Keep any paperwork carefully organized and other tools neatly arranged or contained so they don’t go missing when you need them the most.

Finally, make the most of working at home by sitting near a window. Take advantage of the opportunity to get away from all of that fluorescent light and make the most of natural light. In studies, natural light has shown to improve morale, creativity, and productivity.

Our home designs make it easy to create your own home office. In fact, some designs even work well for people who may have clients visit their home from time to time with dens set up at the front of the home so that there’s a separation from the rest of the living area. If you’re exploring the homes in Ridgefield WA and want a dedicated office space, we can help you find the perfect home plan to meet your living and working needs.
